Saddlebags and Motorcycle Tool Bags - Highwayman Series

Rancho Dominguez, Calif. - October 9, 2012 - Saddlemen riders were out at the Tucson International Raceway this weekend for the Tucson Half-Mile and Round 15 of the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track season. With just one round remaining, some Saddlemen riders solidified their positions in the class standings while others remain in limbo with a final opportunity to grab some points and a potential class title.

AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship
Saddlemen racers once again dominated the GNC race with a sweep of the top 5 spots as well as 7 of the top 10. This time it was Steven Bonsey that took the win with an outstanding performance. Winning by more than a full second, Bonsey claimed his first victory of the season. Fellow Saddlemen riders Bryan Smith and Sammy Halbert joined Bonsey on the podium in 2nd and 3rd, respectively, and Jared Mees and Brad Baker rounded out the top 5.

Saddlemen riders have been equally dominant in the series standings this season, holding 4 of the top 5 spots in both the Expert Twins and Combined standings. Sammy Halbert is currently just 3 points behind the leader in the Expert Twins standings, with Bryan Smith a point behind and Jared Mees 6 points behind.

Already the owner of the 2012 GNC Expert Singles title, Jared Mees holds the GNC Combined top spot with a 12-point lead over Halbert. Bryan Smith and Brad Baker round out the top 5. With just the season finale at Pomona remaining on the schedule, there’s plenty of opportunity for several riders to shake up the top of the standings, and it seems the series title will come down to this final race at the LA County Fairplex.

While the Pro Singles class is anything but decided, Saddlemen racers struggled to add points to their season tallies at Santa Rosa, with just three riders competing in the main event. Jake Shoemaker led the way with a 4th place finish, while fellow Saddlemen riders Shayna Texter and James Monaco finished 8th and 10th, respectively.

With just two rounds remaining, the Pro Singles class is very much up for grabs as Shoemaker finds himself just 11 points behind the leader. Texter has put together a consistent season and moved up to 6th place this weekend, with a chance at cracking into the top 5. Monaco sits at 14th in the standings.

Jared Mees #9 earned a hard fought second place, coming through a "last chance" Semi-Final to start the Main on the third row. Mees passed 10 riders from the start to turn 2, and settled in with #1 Jake Johnson on the low, or inside line, hoping the track would come to them later in the race. Jared made up another six positions to finish second behind #7 Sammy Halbert, despite an oil cooler leak that all but blinded him on the last few laps. Mees retains the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship points lead with only the Tuscon and Pomona Half-Miles remaining in 2012.
