Rookie Rider Guides Moroney Team's Harley To 2010 Honors

PJ Jacobsen - Saddlemen Rookie

Press Release issued by - Moroney's Harley Davidson 1800-FASTHOG

PJ Jacobsen and Moroney’s 1800-FASTHOG Have an Impressive 2010 Year with Rookie Honors

PJ Jacobsen aboard the Moroney’s1800-FASTHOG Harley Davidson XR750 showcased his abilities in his rookie year of 2010.

Jacobsen, who has a full time career in road racing, was given the opportunity by long time sponsor Pat Moroney of Moroney’s 1800-FASTHOG to enter into a select number of flat track races which did not interfere with his road race schedule. The Moroney’s team was given the green light by the AMA who had granted Jacobsen his GNC license at the age of 16. The team included: Dyno George and Rich Hansen to prepare the bikes, Bob Weiss of Weiss Racing to turn the wrenches at the track, and Pat Moroney to assist Weiss and Jacobsen on race strategy.

The team would not have much time to get the bikes and rider ready. Jacobsen had never sat on the legendary Harley Davidson XR750 prior to his first race at the Springfield Mile. The team had set out to Springfield with the idea of getting some seat time. Not only did they accomplish their goal, but Jacobsen was at the top of the charts after qualifying. This would be only the beginning of the amazing race series the team and Jacobsen committed to. By the season finale in Prescott, AZ Jacobsen had qualified for four out of the five AMA Grand National Championship events and had the fastest qualifying time. They had looked to just make it to the main but at every event Jacobsen was running at the front, chasing the leaders for the podium position.

Jacobsen, achieving a stellar series, also brought home the prestigious 2010 AMA Saddlemen Rookie of the Year award which has been won by many of the famous flat track racers.

Bob Weiss“PJ is so relaxed before the start of each race. Nothing seems to bother him. I will tell you, he showed everyone what he has! It was a pleasure to work with him. PJ’s day will come and he will get a win under his belt.”

PJ Jacobsen“I could not have done it with out such a great team. Thank you to George and Rich back at the shop and Bob Weiss and Pat Moroney for putting this all together. The motorcycles ran great and best of all we had fun doing what we love. Thanks again to the Moroney’s 1800-FASTHOG team. Thanks for so much fun.”

Pat Moroney“I love to watch my Harleys run well and do their job. PJ really twists them to the limit and pushes the reliability of the equipment. It makes me smile that my team can put together a winning motorcycle.”PJ is a very talented young rider and ranks up there with some of the best I have had ride my Motorcycles.

At Saddlemen, one our constant sources of work is providing seat refurbishing and modification services to the riding public, no matter what type of machine they ride. An example of recovering existing seats… These flat track racing seats, for a Saddlemen sponsored rider, are receiving custom tailored and embroidered covers, as seen before final mounting. Also, the seat on the right demonstrates some of the possibilities of foam modification and upgrading regularly done here at Saddlemen.

Saddlemen Modifying and Refurbishing Seats

Measure twice, cut once. That’s how the old-but-true saying goes. Our experienced craftsmen are not just skilled but also methodical in their work. At left, in our workshop, a seat due for reshaping and Saddlegel installation is carefully pre-planned, with contours, cuts and insert areas all spelled out before any blade or tool gets near the foam. At right, another seat shows our renowned gel pads installed, awaiting final re-covering.

Anyone interested in having an existing seat re-covered, or its foam upgraded, reshaped or otherwise modified, should contact our sales and technical staff, here, in our California offices, either by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. One of our technicians can then go over the options available to achieve each owner’s desired solution, along with cost and turnaround estimates.

Stockton Area Eagle’s Nest Harley-Davidson Hosts Major Open House Event

Stockton Area Eagle's Nest Harley-Davidson

Saddlemen was pleased to be a part of the big open house at Lathrop, California’s Eagle’s Nest Harley-Davidson, in the Stockton/Manteca area, the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Our Director of Sales, Stan Alicki, got the chance to meet and talk with riders from all across the Bay Area and Northern California, as well as the great people from Eagle’s Nest. In conjunction with one of our major distributors, Drag Specialties, there was a prominent setup of Saddlemen brand luggage on display, and Stan reports strong enthusiasm from the crowds and plenty of interest in holiday shopping for motorcycle-related gear.

Booths and vendors spread out across the dealership, and the roads were lined with bikes from across the region.

700-Miler Combines Product Testing And The Fun Of The Open Highway

Saddlemen 700 Miler Product Testing Ride

Saddlemen 700 Miler Product Testing Ride Kern Hills

A beautiful, crisp mid-November weekend proved an excellent time for nine riders, Saddlemen employees and friends of Saddlemen, to get in some quality touring miles out on the roads of Central California. Over the weekend, the group covered over 700 miles, and roamed from the southern Sierra Nevada foothills, across the Central Valley, and over to Santa Maria, near the Pacific Coast.

Plenty of Saddlemen products were with the group, including Stan Alicki’s BR3400 back seat bag, seen below. Our Jerry Beaty also completed the testing of some new materials incorporated into a saddle for his bagger as well.

While in Santa Maria, the bunch stopped off to pay a visit at Santa Maria Harley Davidson, and had a great chat with the owner, Kevin. Sunday meant a return leg south to the Los Angeles and Orange County area, and plenty of fun memories of a scenic trip across the varied landscapes of mid-state California.

Product Testing With Saddlemen Rider/Employees

Saddlemen - Jerry Beaty and Harley-Davidson FLH

Saddlemen’s Jerry Beaty, an avid long-distance rider, with his trusty Harley-Davidson FLH – a frequent testbed for potential products and upgrades.

Saddlemen was founded by riders, and has many enthusiastic motorcyclists on staff. This has been an excellent resource over the years, especially in product development.

Whether testing new concepts in seat design, trying out new cover materials, conducting routine quality control checks on foam and SaddleGel formulations, or “torture testing” luggage lines before they enter production, we have continually benefited by having riders involved in all stages of research and development.

Nothing beats getting the immediate, experienced feedback of a veteran motorcyclist after a full weekend on the road with a new bag, or weeks of daily use with a potential seat upgrade. Our philosophy of “for riders, by riders” has served us, and our customers well ever since we went into business.

One Size Does Not Fit All… Saddlemen’s Years Of Customizing Experience – Ready To Optimize Your Ride

Saddlemen Custom Seat Work

At Saddlemen we pride ourselves on our experience and ability to custom fit our seats (especially our touring saddles) for the needs of the widest variety of riders. Height, weight, build, riding style and habits can all influence the effectiveness and comfort of a seat. Our sales staff and craftsmen know the right questions to ask, and the answers for providing the best solutions for each individual.

Our standard American-made production run seats are hand-built and designed for comfort and optimal seating position, with years experience behind them, and Saddlemen’s innovative combination of proven materials. Like even the best made piece of clothing, tailoring sometimes is needed to suit the individual “wearer,” or can make a “good” seating setup just about perfect.

Adjustments can be made to improve many aspects of the riding experience. The forward area of a seat can be narrowed to help provide better leg reach to the ground when stopped. Lumbar supports can be adjusted to improve the rider’s seating position, front-to-rear. The shape of the seating surface can be customized to relieve sources of discomfort. Over many years, our staff has found solutions for all kinds of individual issues.

Potential buyers with concerns about comfort, seating position and styling can contact our knowledgeable sales staff at our California offices and factory. A brief conversation can answer many questions, and provide a basis for creating a seat for the best ride possible. We can also discuss options for cover materials, stitching and ornamentation.

Our experienced Sales Department representatives can be reached during normal Pacific time zone business hours at (800) 397-7709.
