Rancho Dominguez, Calif. - October 14, 2013 - After a long season of hard work, tweaking and tuning, and traveling thousands of miles across the country, racers of the 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track season found themselves at the Fairplex in Pomona for the final race of the year. The final races in both the GNC and Pro Singles classes would pit several riders with championship hopes against one another, making for one of the most exciting nights of Flat Track racing in recent memory.

AMA Pro Grand National Championship

Saddlemen rider Brad Baker entered the final round with an 11-point lead in the GNC Combined standings, and stretched that lead further after earning best qualifier honors and winning the 4-lap Dash for Cash race. With even more of a cushion heading into the main event, Baker put on a dominant performance and proved that he’s very comfortable at the Pomona half-mile.

After trading the lead back and forth for several laps, a red flag resulted in a staggered restart and a 10-lap fight to the finish. Baker laid down fast lap after fast lap and took the checkers by nearly a second. Even though he didn’t need to win at Pomona to take the GNC Combined title, Brad Baker finished his incredible 2013 season in dominant fashion. Brad added the 2013 Grand National Championship to his 2013 GNC Expert Singles title and will put don the #1 next year as he looks to defend his title.

The young Briar Bauman put on a terrific performance of his own at Pomona. Bauman finished 3rd and found himself on the GNC podium for the first time in his short career. Bauman finished a solid season in style as he only missed one main event and finished 11th in the standings.

Defending champ Jared Mees finished in fourth place at Pomona, and also finished in fourth in both the Expert Twins and GNC Combined standings. JD Beach rounded out the top-5 at the final race and despite only racing a partial season finished in the top-10 in both Twins and Combined.

Kenny Coolbeth Jr. put together an impressive season that saw ten top-10 finishes. He took the fifth spot in the Expert Twins and sixth in the Combined final standings. Fellow Saddlemen rider Henry Wiles was one of the highlights of the season with a record-setting performance at Peoria, and the two-time Singles champ finished sixth in Twins and fifth in Combined.

AMA Pro J&P Pro Singles

The Pro Singles class was another source of exciting racing Saturday as Saddlemen rider Ryan Wells entered the final round within reach of the 2013 Championship. Just five points behind the leader, Wells needed to do well at Pomona and also get a little help. Wells did his part by finishing in second place but didn’t quite get the help he needed, missing out on the title by a single point. Wells’ amazing season saw a perfect record of top-10 finishes, including three podium appearances.

Rookie rider Bronson Bauman finished fifth at Pomona, and though he missed the first two races due to not being eligible to race at age 15, Bauman made the most of his partial season and finished eighth in class.

Defending Pro Singles champion Stephen Vanderkuur got off to a bumpy start this season but finished strong with three podium finishes. A ninth place finish at Pomona was enough to keep him in third in the standings at season’s end.

Fan favorite Shayna Texter also had her share of early-season trouble but bounced back with a pair of mid-season wins. Her four podium finishes and a seventh place on the Pomona Half-Mile gave her a career-best fourth place Pro Singles finish.

Rancho Dominguez, Calif. - October 1, 2013 - Saddlemen racers returned to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this past weekend for the final race of the 2013 season. AMA Pro Road Racing shared the track once again with international riders as the FIM Superbike World Championship made its only stop in the United States.

AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike

With the SuperSport class wrapped up, expectations were high for an exciting Daytona SportBike finale, and Saddlemen riders did not disappoint. Taking on the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the second time this season, Saddlemen riders set out to take one last shot at a podium finish while solidifying class positions as the season came to an end.

The RoadRace Factory’s Jake Gagne and JD Beach were both exceptional competitors throughout the entire 2013 season, logging 22 top-5 finishes and 15 podium appearances between the two of them. Gagne headed to Laguna Seca with a decent hold on second place in the DSB standings, but needed to log just a few more points to ensure that he would finish the season in second. Gagne was in visible pain all weekend with a broken collarbone and separated shoulder but made the brave decision to fight through the pain and compete in Sunday’s race all the same. Gagne’s 11th place finish earned him more than enough points to secure second place on the season.

Gagne’s teammate JD Beach was also recovering from an injury heading into the final round, though Beach’s was far less substantial. Following an incredible save after nearly high-siding at New Jersey, Beach was banged up as he raced in that round. If Beach was feeling any lingering effects he didn’t show it, as he finished in third place at Laguna Seca. Beach finished out the season in fourth place in the standings.

National Guard/Celtic Racing’s James Rispoli worked incredibly hard this year, finishing no worse than eighth in all twelve races heading into the finale. Tied in points in the Saddlemen Rookie of the Year standings, Rispoli had a lot on the line going into the last race. Unfortunately, things were not going Rispoli’s way as a mechanical issue forced him out of the race after just seven laps. Despite missing out on the Rookie of the Year honors, Rispoli put together an incredible season and proved that he can compete in the Daytona SportBike class.

Riders Discount racer Jake Zemke put in a solid sixth place ride, and though he only competed in seven races in his 2013 campaign still managed to finish 16th in the standings. Teammate Joey Pascarella raced in each round but unfortunately was knocked out of the final race after 15 laps. Pascarella finished 14th in the standings.

Though the SuperSport season officially ended in New Jersey, several Saddlemen riders took the opportunity to step up to the Daytona SportBike ranks for the final race of the year. SuperSport West and Overall champion Tomas Puerta led the way with an eighth place finish in his DSB debut. National Guard/Celtic Racing rider Corey Alexander also made his DSB debut but was dropped out after six laps. The SuperSport East champ will join Puerta in the Daytona SportBike class fulltime in 2014. SuperSport East runner-up Hayden Gillim also got his first DSB ride with Meen Motorsports and finished 13th.

Rancho Dominguez, Calif. - September 4, 2013 - The Springfield Mile is always one of the highlights of the AMA Pro Flat Track season, and the 2013 doubleheader was no exception as Saddlemen riders Brandon Robinson and Shayna Texter put together a pair of sweeps this Labor Day Weekend.

AMA Pro GNC Expert Twins

The excitement in the Expert Twins class has been thrilling this season, with five different riders claiming victories in just seven races. Saddlemen rider Brad Baker got off to a hot start, taking the Expert Singles title earlier this year and leading the Expert Twins until a bike breakdown at Colonial Downs. Rising up in his place is fellow Saddlemen rider Brandon Robinson, who put in two impressive performances this weekend to sweep the doubleheader.

Robinson had a few rocky turnouts in the middle of the season but has rebounded with refreshed confidence in recent races. His back-to-back wins at Springfield pushed Robinson from third to second in the standings, just 5 points back from the leader with just two rounds remaining.

Saddlemen supported rider JD Beach has been enjoying the long AMA Pro Road Racing breaks by putting in some impressive Flat Track rides of his own. Beach’s pair of third place finishes moved him into seventh in the Expert Twins standings despite only having raced five of the seven events.

Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. had a solid weekend with a sixth place finish on Saturday and followed it up with fourth place on Sunday. Coolbeth, Jr. joins Robinson and Baker in the Expert Twins top-5. Brad Baker finished fifth in both races, proving he can bounce back from disappointment at Colonial Downs with two good races at Springfield. Baker dropped to third in the Expert Twins standings but holds onto a ten point lead in the Combined standings.

Jared Mees missed the top-5 both days, but nevertheless enjoyed a momentous occasion as he married fellow AMA Pro Flat Track racer Nichole Cheza Sunday before the races.

Jake Shoemaker, who finished second in the Pro Singles class in 2012, has made the most of his first season in the big leagues. Shoemaker locked up the Saddlemen Rookie of the Year Award this weekend with two solid finishes.

Texter won on Saturday by more than 11 seconds, while fellow Saddlemen riders Cody Johncox and Eric Stump followed in third and fifth, respectively.

Texter followed up the incredible performance with another dominant effort, this time winning Sunday’s race by more than five seconds. Johncox improved to second place on Sunday, while Ryan Wells and Eric Stump enjoyed top-10 finishes.

Rancho Dominguez, Calif. - August 27, 2013 - Just a week removed from the Indy Mile, Saddlemen riders found themselves in New Kent, VA for the inaugural Colonial Downs Mile. The 9th round of the 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track season, 1.25-mile track played host to a pair of Saddlemen podium sweeps as Jared Mees won the GNC Expert Twins race and Cody Johncox took Pro Singles top honors.

AMA Pro GNC Expert Twins

It looked like business as usual throughout the first half of the Colonial Downs Mile as Saddlemen rider Brad Baker ran out in front with the GNC Expert Twins class leader. That is until the eighth lap when the leader was forced to throw in the towel with a bike malfunction and Baker dropped out of the race. The path to the checkers was suddenly opened for Saddlemen’s Jared Mees and Henry Wiles, but after 18 laps it was Jared Mees that crossed the line aboard his Saddlemen-equipped Harley-Davidson. Wiles followed in second place while fellow Saddlemen rider Brandon Robinson completed the podium sweep.

It was just the first victory of the season and fourth podium for the defending champ, who has jumped up into third in the Expert Twins standings and fourth in the Combined standings. Wiles continued his top-10 streak with his third podium of the season and sits in fourth in Expert Twins and second in GNC Combined. Brandon Robinson is in fifth place on both leader boards after back-to-back podium finishes, and Brad Baker still holds a sizeable lead in the GNC Combined standings despite only recording one point in Virginia.

The Colonial Downs Pro Singles race was one for ages as Saddlemen riders Cody Johncox, Shayna Texter and Stephen Vanderkuur battled it out in one of the closest finishes in AMA Flat Track history. Johncox started from the second position but it was Vanderkuur that took the early lead in the 10-lap race, while Texter sliced through the traffic from the second row up to the lead pack. Johncox took the lead on the seventh lap and managed to hold off charges by Texter and Vanderkuur, crossing the line just .008-second ahead of Texter. Vanderkuur finished third just .053-second behind Texter as the top-5 riders finished within a half second of the winner.

The victory was just the second of Johncox’s young career and first of 2013, and came just one week after a third place podium finish at the Indy Mile. The second place finish wass the fourth podium placement of the season for Texter and propelled her from sixth in the standings to fourth. Vanderkuur earned his third podium of the season and is in third in the standings. Ryan Wells is still in second place, just five points back from the leader. Wells and Dominic Colindres are the only two riders to record points in every event this year.

He may have had to work for this one, but at the end of the day everyone in the house knew that the 9th-straight win by Henry Wiles at the Peoria TT was a day of champions for the former 2-Time AMA Grand National Singles Champion.

After losing power on his #17 Don's Kawasaki-sponsored Honda CRF450R, Hammerin' Hank was forced to race his way into the National main event via his semi race at round 7 of the AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles Grand National Championship season in Thunder Valley.

And after starting from the third row in the 18-rider main, Wiles put on a clinic on clean passing as he methodically picked off rider after rider throughout the event's first 10 laps before taking the lead and soaring on to another victory at Henry's House and setting a new record of 9-straight wins in Sunday's running of the annual Peoria Motorcycle Club-hosted event. Henry now sits second in the series points standings.

One of those riders Wiles worked his way around was Steve Bonsey on the #80 Zanotti Racing Honda entry (shown above) who fell to the King of Peoria between turns one and two early in the event's running. But as he did with the near 15 riders he was forced to work his way around, Hank made it clean and pretty in his romp to the front. It was truly a great day for Henry, and it was a pleasure to be there to take in the history that he made of the day!

Major accomplishments from Sundays Peoria T.T. August 11th 2013

Brad Baker Claims GNC Expert Singles Title

Rancho Dominguez, Calif. - August 13, 2013 - The 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track Series hit the halfway point at the Peoria TT this weekend, and Saddlemen celebrated yet another class championship and podium sweep as well as an historical achievement.

AMA Pro GNC Expert Singles

The last time someone other than Henry Wiles won the Peoria TT, the Summer Olympics in Athens were wrapping up, gasoline prices were hitting record highs at around $2/gallon, and Facebook was just getting off the ground. The year was 2004.

Henry Wiles headed to Peoria, Illinois tied with AMA Hall of Famer Chris Carr for the most consecutive wins at a single facility with 8; both coincidentally at Peoria. Wiles was not only chasing the record, however. Just two points behind Brad Baker in the GNC Expert Singles standings, Peoria served as the fourth and final Expert Singles race of the season and Wiles was in as good a position as anybody to claim the 2013 title.

After being forced to qualify in a semifinal, Wiles was slotted in the third row as the GNC racers lined up for the start of the main event Sunday. Wiles kept his cool, however, meticulously picking his way through the field and charging into the lead on lap nine and holding on to beat Baker by more than three seconds.

Wiles claimed his 9th straight victory at Peoria, but the new record holder for most consecutive wins at a single facility fell just short of a second honor on the weekend. Saddlemen rider Brad Baker put in a strong 2nd place effort, enough to stay ahead in the points tally and claim the 2013 GNC Expert Singles title.

JD Beach returned to Flat Track competition for just the second time this year. Taking a break from his successful season in the Daytona SportBike class, Beach finished 3rd at Peoria. Briar Bauman finished in 5th.

Brad Baker is the 2013 GNC Expert Singles champion, with Henry Wiles finishing in 2nd, Jared Mees finishing 3rd and Steven Bonsey finishing 5th. The six remaining rounds will decide the GNC Expert Twins and Combined champions, however Baker holds onto comfortable leads in both races. Sammy Halbert is in 2nd in the Expert Twins standings, while 2012 Champ Jared Mees joins Wiles in the Combined standings top-5.

Saddlemen rider Dan Bromley led the charge in the Pro Singles race at PMC Race Park Sunday, leading early in the race before crashing on the jump during the fourth lap. Despite lining up at the back of a staggered restart, Bromley fought through the field to a 2nd place finish. It was Bromley’s second podium finish of the season, and he sits in 10th place in the standings.

Saddlemen’s Ryan Wells finished 7th at Peoria, adding precious points to his strong 2013 campaign. Wells has been the mark of consistency in the Pro Singles class this year, finishing in the top-10 in every event. Wells is tied for the class lead with just four events remaining on the Pro Singles schedule.

Rancho Dominguez, Calif. - August 6, 2013 - Saddlemen rolled into Castle Rock Race Park with high expectations and racers vying for some crucial mid-season points. Just about the halfway point of the season, Round 6 resulted in four podium finishes highlighted by the first win of the season for Dominic Colindres in Pro Singles.

GNC Expert Singles

Jared Mees led the way for Saddlemen riders in the GNC Expert Singles race at Castle Rock. With just four races in the Expert Singles Championship every event is an opportunity for critical points.

Mees seemed to sense the urgency as he jumped out to grab the holeshot off the line. Mees was unable to hold the lead, however, and settled into third behind fellow Saddlemen rider Briar Bauman for a majority of the race. Bauman was pressing for the lead late in the race when he crashed, preventing him from finishing the race.

Mees took 2nd place and Steven Bonsey joined him on the podium in 3rd. Henry Wiles started in 13th position but picked his way through the crowd to finish 4th, and Brad Baker rounded out the top-5.

With just one round remaining and a tight spread in the points standings the GNC Expert Singles title is anybody’s to claim. Brad Baker leads the group with 45 points, while Mees follows with 44, Wiles with 43, and Brandon Robinson with 42. Baker also leads the GNC Combined standings by a wide margin, with Wiles, Robinson and Mees all in the top-5.

Saddlemen rider Dominic Colindres was dominant in his winning ride at Castle Rock Race Park. Colindres, who finished 4th in the Pro Singles class in 2012, has gotten his 2013 season off to a bumpy start with just one top-10 finish heading into Round 6. Starting in pole position, Dominic led the race wire-to-wire and won his first of 2013 by more than two seconds.

Bronson Bauman may have only turned 16 a couple months ago, and thereby qualified for AMA competition, but he is already showing that he belongs with his first career podium at Castle Rock. Bauman started in fifth but after working his way into second was able to cruise to a comfortable 2nd place finish.

The victory launched Colindres from 9th in the standings up to 4th, and with just five Pro Singles races left on the schedule both Colindres and Ryan Wells are within striking distance for the class title. Bauman continues to fly up the standings with solid results, this week cracking the top-10.

Another round is in the books and with it comes two more GNC podiums for Saddlemen riders to go along with six top-10 finishes. Several Saddlemen riders battled for positioning in a tight pack as they bore down on the final lap. Saddlemen’s Jared Mees led the way with a 2nd place finish, just 0.083-second behind the winner.

Defending champ Mees notched his second podium of the season and first since the Daytona opener, and climbs to 8th in the GNC Combined standings and 10th in the Expert Twins standings. Brad Baker missed the podium for the first time this season and leads both the Combined and Expert Twins standings. Brandon Robinson is seated firmly in 2nd in the Combined standings, while Sammy Halbert holds down 2nd place in the Expert Twins standings. Wiles holds 5th on both leaderboards.

Saddlemen rider Shayna Texter is quickly establishing herself at the top of the Pro Singles ranks, and added to her growing reputation with her first victory of the season Saturday night. Shayna started in second position but after just the first lap had fallen to sixth place. Over the next 11 laps, however, Texter would fight her way through the pack with consistent and efficient laps, eventually landing in a final-lap duel with the checkers in sight. Texter would triumph aboard her Saddlemen Flat Track seat by a mere 0.016-second gap.

Fellow Saddlemen rider and 2012 Pro Singles champion Stephen Vanderkuur found himself on the podium for the first time this season. The 3rd place finish came after Vanderkuur laid down the top qualifying time and the fastest lap in the main event. Ryan Wells and Bronson Bauman finished 4th and 5th, respectively.

Texter kicked off the first of three race wins at Sacramento last year, and wound up finishing 5th in the Pro Singles standings at season’s end. Shayna is currently tied for 4th place in the 2013 standings and perhaps this victory is the sign of more top finishes to come. Vanderkuur is tied with Texter in the points standings, and Dominic Colindres is sitting in 9th place.
