Video Offers An Inside Look At Preparations For Upcoming Season

Johnny Lewis, shares a video clip showing his recent work, readying himself, along with several other Saddlemen-sponsored racers, for the upcoming 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship (GNC) season.

It's an excellent view into the practice techniques flat-trackers use to maintain and improve their racing skills.

At Saddlemen, we are proud to continue our tradition of race sponsorship. It's something we've done continually since our company was founded. It's an honor, and a lot of fun, to contribute to the success of great young riders like Johnny Lewis, and so many of our other sponsored racers.

Saddlemen Mourns Recent Loss Of Sponsored Racer

Saddlemen ownership and staff were saddened to learn of the death of long-time flat track racer Rick Hocking. We were proud to sponsor Rick for several years now. Only recently he'd finished third at this year's Saddlemen Vintage Class competition at Gene Romero's WCFTS event in Las Vegas.

A California native, Rick was a rodeo rider in his youth, until getting involved in motorcycle racing in the late '60s. He raced on the AMA Grand National circuit from the mid-1970s until the early 1980s, winning four Grand National races.

Rick J. Hocking - November 25, 1952 to January 18, 2011

We at Saddlemen, since our founding, have enjoyed and taken pride in sponsoring motorsports racers and events. And while machines provide the thrill, velocity and competition possible, it's the spirit, commitment and courage of riders like Rick that make the heart and soul of the sport.

Saddlemen-Sponsored Flat Trackers Cory & Shayna Texter's Grandfather Was 85

Ray Texter - Funeral Notice

We at Saddlemen received word Wednesday night of Ray "Tex" Texter's (above, at right) death. We have had the honor of sponsoring the current generation of racing Texters, and working with the family's racing team. The recent loss of Randy Texter this past summer makes the loss even tougher. Our sympathies go out to all the Texter family, along with the many friends and colleagues of this veteran of the motorsport community.

Below is the message and information we received from Cory Texter.

Sad News From Texter Racing

I wanted to let all of my sponsors know that my grandfather Ray "Tex" Texter passed away last night. He was 85. It is only four months ago that his son, my father, also passed away on August 30th. They were the only reason I have any involvment in racing that I do now. My Dad & Grandpa were the ultimate father/son team through-out my Dad's career. Pop Texter tuned the wrenches and my Dad was the rider. Without things I have learned from both of them over the years, I would not be at a level now where I can continue to further my racing career alongside my sister.

RLT Racing will have another angel looking down on us in 2011. I can't thank all of you enough for helping us this coming season. Without you guys, we would literally have nothing to go racing... However, you will see Shayna and myself at every race next season and we are coming at the competition hard. We have been riding, training and ready to get going. Daytona is only two months away and we are very excited for what 2011 brings. Our goal is to be on the podium and win, gain exposure and have fun. The last couple years have been hard for us and with the things we have been dealing with have really dampened our focus at the track.

Rookie Rider Guides Moroney Team's Harley To 2010 Honors

PJ Jacobsen - Saddlemen Rookie

Press Release issued by - Moroney's Harley Davidson 1800-FASTHOG

PJ Jacobsen and Moroney’s 1800-FASTHOG Have an Impressive 2010 Year with Rookie Honors

PJ Jacobsen aboard the Moroney’s1800-FASTHOG Harley Davidson XR750 showcased his abilities in his rookie year of 2010.

Jacobsen, who has a full time career in road racing, was given the opportunity by long time sponsor Pat Moroney of Moroney’s 1800-FASTHOG to enter into a select number of flat track races which did not interfere with his road race schedule. The Moroney’s team was given the green light by the AMA who had granted Jacobsen his GNC license at the age of 16. The team included: Dyno George and Rich Hansen to prepare the bikes, Bob Weiss of Weiss Racing to turn the wrenches at the track, and Pat Moroney to assist Weiss and Jacobsen on race strategy.

The team would not have much time to get the bikes and rider ready. Jacobsen had never sat on the legendary Harley Davidson XR750 prior to his first race at the Springfield Mile. The team had set out to Springfield with the idea of getting some seat time. Not only did they accomplish their goal, but Jacobsen was at the top of the charts after qualifying. This would be only the beginning of the amazing race series the team and Jacobsen committed to. By the season finale in Prescott, AZ Jacobsen had qualified for four out of the five AMA Grand National Championship events and had the fastest qualifying time. They had looked to just make it to the main but at every event Jacobsen was running at the front, chasing the leaders for the podium position.

Jacobsen, achieving a stellar series, also brought home the prestigious 2010 AMA Saddlemen Rookie of the Year award which has been won by many of the famous flat track racers.

Bob Weiss“PJ is so relaxed before the start of each race. Nothing seems to bother him. I will tell you, he showed everyone what he has! It was a pleasure to work with him. PJ’s day will come and he will get a win under his belt.”

PJ Jacobsen“I could not have done it with out such a great team. Thank you to George and Rich back at the shop and Bob Weiss and Pat Moroney for putting this all together. The motorcycles ran great and best of all we had fun doing what we love. Thanks again to the Moroney’s 1800-FASTHOG team. Thanks for so much fun.”

Pat Moroney“I love to watch my Harleys run well and do their job. PJ really twists them to the limit and pushes the reliability of the equipment. It makes me smile that my team can put together a winning motorcycle.”PJ is a very talented young rider and ranks up there with some of the best I have had ride my Motorcycles.

Saddlemen is pleased to support Flat Track Racing and is proud to award PJ with this year's AMA rookie honors. Since it's founding in 1987, Saddlemen has been an enthusiastic sponsor of motorsports, and are committed to continuing this tradition.

A Special Thanks To Lloyd Brothers Racing On Their 2010 Season

Ducati-Kopp-Finish-line

Saddlemen's president, Tom Seymour, is proud to congratulate everyone at Lloyd Brothers for their great year.

Here are a few words from Tom:

Mike and David Lloyd have made tremendous contribution to flattrack and Saddlemen acknowledges their special effort.

First, David and Mike’s participation was fueled purely by their passion for racing with no other ties or connection to the motorcycle industry.

Simply, they put in money, energy and time but received nothing in return except the joy of being involved in flattrack - the greatest racing sport on this planet.

They contributed significantly to dirt track racing, expecting nothing but a sense of job well done in return.

Their achievements were monumental. With a limited budget, a new team and a production bike never before raced on dirt, they won a GNC race, threatened to win at nearly every event they attended, brought Nicky Hayden and Ducati to the Indy Mile and nearly won the AMA championship – a bid principally derailed, literally, by a thrown chain.

Ducati-LLoyd2

Their Ducati victory was the first time in 29years that a readily available production engine won a Grand National Twins race. Limited production, flat track race-only Honda RS750 and Harley-Davidson XR750s had won every other GNC Twins National since 1981.

Of course, it is also appropriate to also recognize their team, especially lead rider Joe Kopp – a true gentleman and racing icon.

Other members included: riders Larry Pegram and Aaron King, crew members David Gamble, Kevin Atherton, Rob Kopp and Dave Weaver.

They achieved much with little except their passion. Their involvement has enriched our chosen sport.

Mike and David Lloyd, thank you for being a part of our sport!

Champion Racer And Father Of Saddlemen-Sponsored Flat-Trackers Passes Away At 48

We at Saddlemen wish to express our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Randy Texter, who passed away on August 30th. With our long-standing connections to racing, and our racing sponsorships, a number of the Saddlemen "family" had known Randy for many years.

Randy was a former championship racer, winning the 1990 AMA U.S. Twin Sports championship in road racing, and for many years was the owner of Pennsylvania's Lancaster Harley-Davidson.

He was also the father of two young flat track racers we have the privilege to sponsor, Cory Texter and Shayna Texter. Our sympathies go out to them, and all of Randy's family.

Avid Race Fans Join Saddlemen and Racing Legends at Laguna Seca MotoGP for Launch of Peter Starr’s Latest Motorcycle Tome

Book Signing Combo

Book-Cover-Image-2

Many of the thousands of race fans attending the Laguna Seca MotoGP event on July 21st received a special treat as world road racing champions Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey and Eddie Lawson, plus flat track racing legend Gary Nixon joined famed film maker Peter Starr for the launch of Starr’s new Saddlemen-sponsored book “Taking It To The Limit – 20 Years Of Making Motorcycle Movies”.

Starr’s large coffee table book: “Taking it to The Limit – 20 Years Of Making Motorcycle Movies” is a rich collection of images and stories about filming the greatest names in motorcycle racing history. In addition to Roberts, Rainey, Nixon and Lawson the book documents Starr’s experience filming riders such as Roger DeCoster, Steve Baker, Mike Hailwood and many other legends.

A special book printing made copies available so the famed racers, and Starr himself, could autograph the high quality, color book for the excited fans. Remarked one fan; “Peter’s film was special as it focused upon the sport and racing as they moved from the seventies into the eighties. Motorcycles were evolving fast and the racers had to be pretty skilled to keep those bikes under control. Peter captured their exploits on film and we can now learn more about those times with his book!”

Saddlemen’s role, as a presenting sponsor of the book, was a natural continuation of the support provided to racers of all disciplines. Universally recognized as one of the nation’s strongest supporters of flat track racing; Saddlemen President Tom Seymour is pressing forward with a higher level of support in the road race arena to help showcase the company’s new Sportbike seat and accessory offerings.

Accompanying the book is a DVD featuring special outtakes from several of Starr’s award-winning films including his best known movie, “Take It To The Limit.” Also on the DVD is a special greeting from Seymour in which he provides a fascinating look at the engineering and processes behind the country’s premier motorcycle seat, luggage and accessory manufacturer.

The iconic “Take It To The Limit” film was recently made available in DVD format. Starr’s book will be available for order from Saddlemen in the near future. Check back at www.saddlemen.com in the coming weeks for additional information about the book’s availability and for additional racing and enthusiast news.
